JOHNSON EARNS NATIONAL RECOGNITION

Ottumwa, IA – On the heels of a record-breaking weekend, sophomore Terrick Johnson (Memphis, TN/Whitehaven) of the Indian Hills Men's Track & Field team has been named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, announced Wednesday afternoon.

Johnson, who was also named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, collected the program's fifth weekly national honor of the year, and first NJCAA weekly honor.

Johnson posted a pair of first-place finishes while setting two meet records at the Wendy's Pitt State Invite at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, KS. Johnson set the track aflame in the men's 600-yard run with a blistering time of 1:09.50, a new meet record. Johnson's personal best time also ranks second in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) this year behind only teammate Tyrice Taylor (Linstead, Jamaica/Vere Technical). Johnson's time was tops out of 27 competitors on Saturday.

The freshman helped close out a dominant day for the top-ranked team in the nation with the men's 4x400-meter relay. For the second consecutive week, Johnson helped guide the Warrior quartet to a first-place finish in the relay, this time with a new meet record and the No. 1 time in the nation. Johnson ran the second leg of the 4x400 relay to help propel the Warriors with a time of 3:08.69, nearly three seconds ahead of the second-place team.

Johnson now owns two top-five marks in school history between the 600y and the 800-meter run while the relay squad is just over a second off the Indian Hills school record.

The Warriors return to action at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, IA on February 3.
