ALUMS MARSHALL, WALKER SHINE AT NCAA'S

Boston, MA – Two former Indian Hills Track & Field standouts made history for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships. Rivaldo Marshall and Kalen Walker helped lead the Hawkeyes to a ninth-place finish, the best in program history.

Marshall, the two-time National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Track & Field National Champion and seven-time All-American, captured the NCAA 800-meter national championship on Saturday, the first in program history for the Hawkeyes. Marshall garnered All-American honors and sat atop the podium after a blistering time of 1:46.96, just one-tenth of a second behind his own school record set earlier this year.

Marshall became the first Hawkeye to win an NCAA National Championship since 1998 and has put together a standout season in his first year in Iowa City. Marshall previously earned United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Athlete of the Week honors and helped lead the 4x400-meter relay squad to a third-place finish at the Big Ten Championships.

A native of Eddyville, IA, Walker has made headlines for the Hawkeyes in each of the last two seasons. The senior's efforts led to a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash at the NCAA National Championships with a time of 6.59, just five-hundreths of a second behind the first-place finisher.

Walker, a three-time NCAA All-American, holds the Iowa indoor school record in the 60m with a time of 6.51, set earlier this season. While at Indian Hills during the 2020-21 campaign, Walker was a two-time All-Region performer, including a first-team selection after leading the 4x100-meter relay squad to a first-place finish.

Marshall and Walker are two of four Warrior alums currently on the Hawkeye roster, joining Damoy Allen and Nick O'Connor.
