Ottumwa, IA – The Indian Hills Track & Field programs earned national rankings this week as the Warriors are set for the upcoming National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Outdoor Track & Field Region 11 Championships in Council Bluffs.
The Warrior men remained in the top-five of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national rankings, checking in at No. 4 this week behind No. 1 South Plains College (TX), No. 2 Iowa Western Community College, and No. 3 New Mexico Junior College.
The women's program checked in at No. 17 in the national polls and No. 3 in the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Rankings.
Both squads will vie for a regional championship this weekend at Iowa Western for the two-day event, set to get underway Saturday afternoon.
The men's squad heads into postseason action with a number of top marks in both national and Iowa Community College Athletic Conference rankings. Indian Hills held strong in the men's 800-meter event with the top event squad in the nation, led by defending national champion Tyrice Taylor's (Linstead, Jamaica/Vere Technical) top time in the nation this year at 1:47.92.
The Warriors are ranked second in the 400-mter hurdles and 110-meter hurdles thanks to freshman Cyrus Ways' (Ponte Vedra, FL/Nease) dominant performances in both events this year. Indian Hills is also ranked third in the nation in the men's 1,500-meter run, led by Keveroy Venson's (Linstead, Jamaica/Calabar) top time of 3:47.03, No. 4 nationally.
Sophomore Traunard Folson (Jacksonville, FL/Andrew Jackson) will lead the Warrior sprinters into Council Bluffs with the nation's top time in the 100-meter dash at 10.06.
Freshman Tate Joens (Cedar Rapids, IA/Cedar Rapids Prairie), the national runner-up during the indoor season, enters the weekend with the nation's top mark in the hammer throw at 57.54 meters.
On the women's side, the Warriors will lean on their sprints groups to make a statement. Indian Hills currently boasts the nation's top 200-meter event squad, led by sophomore Adalin Robinson's (Riverdale, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) time of 24.00. Shanice Cox (Minneapolis, MN/Minneapolis South) powers the 100-meter group with a team-leading time of 11.71 this season.
