Ottumwa, IA – Raynier Galvez (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County) collected his second weekly honor on Tuesday as the Indian Hills Men's Track & Field freshman has been selected as the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Indoor Men's Track Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday afternoon by the conference office.
Galvez, who was tapped as the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week on Monday, earned the ICCAC's first weekly Athlete of the Week award following a breakthrough performance at the Washburn Alumni Invitational on Saturday.
Galvez made headlines over the weekend by running away with the men's 600-yard run with a record-breaking performance. In his collegiate debut, Galvez ran the seventh-fastest 600y time in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Men's Track & Field history with a time of 1:09.58. Galvez took home top honors in the event, finishing nearly four seconds ahead of the field.
Galvez closed out the day by leading the Warriors to the 4x400-meter relay title with a time of 3:13.69. Galvez posted a blistering split of 46.65 to lead the charge.
As a program, the Warriors have now received 11 USTFCCCA National Indoor Athlete of the Week honors dating back to the 2017 season, including eight in the past three years alone.
The Warriors close out the 2024 calendar year next weekend with the two-day Iowa State Holiday Invite in Ames, IA on Friday and Saturday.
