Ames, IA – Three individual titles and three school records highlighted the Indian Hills Men's Track & Field squad at the Iowa State Holiday Invitational over the weekend as the Warriors competed as the lone junior college program at the Lied Recreation Center.
Freshman Raynier Galvez (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County), the reigning United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week, produced another electrifying performance with a first-place finish in the men's 800-meter run. Galvez ran the third-fastest time in program history with a mark of 1:49.77.
Galvez has now captured first-place finishes in back-to-back individual events for the Warriors.
Along with Galvez's effort in the 800m run, the freshman powered the men's 4x400-meter relay to close out the weekend with a first-place finish. Galvez teamed up with Marshae McDonald (Sanford, FL/Seminole), Jaquan Coke (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College), and Ainsley Brown (Portland, Jamaica) to run away with the team title, crossing the finish line with a time of 3:17.78.
The 800m run saw a total of five Warriors crack the top-10 as Jaquan Coke (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College) took home a second-place finish with a time of 1:53.26 while Logan Rosas (Oakville, IA/Mediapolis) placed fifth overall with a time of 1:55.84.
Freshman Supreme Muhammad (Rockford, IL/Winnebago) placed first overall in the men's 400-meter finals with a time of 47.51 while teammate Justin Gray (Memphis, TN/Southwind) placed third overall with a time of 47.84.
Muhammad was part of a loaded 200-meter group that took home four of the top-five spots in the finals on Saturday. Freshman Domictress Robinson (Jacksonville, FL/Jean Ribault) placed first overall in the event with a time of 21.16, the fourth-fastest mark in school history while Muhammad took second with a time of 21.33, tied for the fifth-fastest time in school history. Damor Miller (Kingston, Jamaica) and Gray rounded out the top-five for the Warriors with fourth and fifth-place showings, respectively.
Robinson also took home a third-place finish in the men's 60-meter dash with a mark of 6.86 while Izaiah Loveless (Iowa City, IA/Iowa City West) placed fourth overall with a time of 6.88.
Sophomore Cayde de Waal (Brakpan, South Africa/Hoërskool Oosterlig) produced the second-fastest mile time in school history, placing fourth overall with a time of 4:11.30 for the Warriors.
The field events saw a number of solid performances as sophomore Kaden Banks (Onalaska, WI/Holmen) posted a new school record in the shot put with a mark of 16.86-meters.
Sophomore All-American Triston Miller (Columbus Junction, IA/Columbus Junction) broke his own school record in the men's heptathlon, scoring 5,111 points to place third overall for the Warriors. Miller placed first overall in the heptathlon's 60-meter hurdles event with a time of 8.24 while also setting a new school record in the pole vault with a mark of 3.60 meters.
Harry Momolu (Blackwood, NJ/Fork Union Military Academy) posted a strong showing in the men's 60-meter hurdles as the freshman took home a runner-up finish. Momolu posted a time of 8.08 in the finals, the third-fastest mark in school history.
Momolu was followed by sophomore Shuanlarry Lamarre (Brentwood, NY/Brentwood) who posted a fifth-place finish and Jaquan Means (Mukilteo, WA/Kamiak) who placed sixth overall.
Sophomore All-Americans Michael Etuma (Iowa City, IA/Iowa City) and Tate Joens (Cedar Rapids, IA/Cedar Rapids Prairie) both hit national qualifying marks in their respective events for the Warriors. Etuma led the Warriors in the weight throw with a mark of 17.33 meters while Joens hit the national standard in both the shot put and weight throw.
Freshman Dantevious Boykin (Coffeyville, KS/Field Kindley) was the top performer in the men's long jump, taking home a third-place finish with a mark of 6.90 meters.
The Warriors head into the holiday break before returning to action January 17 at the Nebraska Graduate Classic in Lincoln, NE.
