Ottumwa, IA – For the second consecutive week, freshman Raynier Galvez (Paterson, NJ/Passaic County) of the Indian Hills Men's Track & Field squad has been tapped as the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Athlete of the Week. Galvez starred at the Iowa State Holiday Invitational in Ames over the weekend.
Galvez, who captured both the USTFCCCA and the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) weekly awards last week, turned heads once again with a blistering performance in the men's 800-meter run. Galvez produced another electrifying performance with a first-place finish in the men's 800-meter run. The freshman ran the third-fastest time in program history with a mark of 1:49.77.
Galvez has now captured first-place finishes in back-to-back individual events for the Warriors.
Along with Galvez's effort in the 800m run, the freshman powered the men's 4x400-meter relay to close out the weekend with a first-place finish. Galvez teamed up with Marshae McDonald (Sanford, FL/Seminole), Jaquan Coke (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College), and Ainsley Brown (Portland, Jamaica) to run away with the team title, crossing the finish line with a time of 3:17.78.
Galvez becomes just the third individual in program history to earn multiple USTFCCCA national honors, joining former Indian Hills national champions Rivaldo Marshall and Kenny Bednarek.
The Warriors head into the holiday break before returning to action January 17 at the Nebraska Graduate Classic in Lincoln, NE.
