Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Tate Joens (Cedar Rapids, IA/Cedar Rapids Prairie)) of the Indian Hills Men's Track & Field squad has been named this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Field Athlete of the Week after a record-breaking performance over the weekend. Joens collects his third ICCAC Athlete of the Week honor for the Warriors.
Competing at the Hawkeye Invitational in Iowa City, IA, Joens shattered his own school record in the weight throw with a distance of 19.37-meters, more than a full meter better than his previous mark. Joens, who placed fifth overall in the NCAA DI event, owns the top-mark in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) this year while his new personal best mark ranks 11th best all-time in NJCAA history.
Joens also followed up with a strong showing in the men's shot put, placing third overall with a new personal best mark of 16.89m, the second-best distance in school history and the fourth-best mark in the NJCAA this year.
Along with his three ICCAC Athlete of the Week honors, Joens is a three-time All-American and two-time ICCAC Field Athlete of the Year.
The Warriors are back in action January 24-25 with a pair of events – the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City, IA and the Iowa State Cyclone Open in Ames, IA.
