Paducah, KY – The Indian Hills Women's Golf team, competing as the lone junior college program at The Velvet Classic, posted an 11th place finish on Tuesday. The Warriors fired a 123-over, 987 to finish ahead of four NCAA Division I programs.
The Warriors posted round scores of 326-331-330-987 to finish tied for 11th with Murray State University. Indian Hills placed ahead of programs such as Southern Indiana University, Northern Kentucky University, and Eastern Illinois University.
Indian Hills was paced by freshman Joska Nelis (Haarlem, Netherlands/Lyceum Sancta Maria), this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Women's Golf Athlete of the Week. One week removed from winning the 2024 Statesmen Invitational in Oskaloosa, IA, Nelis fired a team-best 21-over, 237 to tie for 26th place in the 91-player field. Nelis fired round scores of 75-80-82-237 to lead the Warriors for the second consecutive tournament. Nelis collected a pair of birdies over the course of the three rounds.
Freshman Veronica Rodriguez (Santiago, Chile/Liceo A-1310 Buin) placed second overall for the Warriors with a 41st place showing, finishing 28-over. Rodriguez's best round came in Round 2 with a 79.
Taylor Pacheco (Chula Vista, CA/Olympian) tied for 62nd overall for the Warriors after collecting a team-best four birdies. The freshman used an opening round 81 for posting back-to-back birdies in Round 3 to place for the Warriors.
Freshman Poppy Norcott (Wiltshire, United Kingdom/Hartpury College) and Sofia Saavedra (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/Dawere International) rounded out the team scoring for the Warriors, shooting +41 and +43, respectively.
The Warriors are back in action October 7-8 at the Evangel University Invitational in Joplin, MO.
