BETTICH LEADS WARRIORS AT LINDENWOOD OPEN

St. Charles, MO – No. 13 Indian Hills Men's Wrestling hit the road for the Lindenwood Open on Saturday and came home with an impressive showing against premiere four-year competition. Seven different Warriors placed in the 36-team field.

The Warriors were led by freshman standout Riley Bettich (Stevensville, MI/Crown Point) whose breakout season continued with a first-place finish in the 125lb weight class. In a bracket filled with three National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) nationally ranked individuals, Bettich cruised to a first-place showing in the Gold Division Open.

Coming off his second Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) dual victory, Bettich opened up Saturday with a fall in 1:03 before securing a 16-1 tech fall in the second round. Bettich squared off in the quarterfinal round with No. 4 ranked Anthony Schickel of Triton College (IL) and earned a 4-2 decision to advance to the semis. Bettich added a 6-2 decision before advancing to the finals where the freshman earned a 3-1 sudden victory to claim medalist honors for the Warriors.

Sophomore Lucas Henderson (Centerville, IA/Centerville) earned a second-place finish in the 174lb class. Henderson earned a major in the opening round before securing three straight decisions to advance to the finals.

Sophomore Matthew Lewis (Centerville, IA/Centerville) placed third overall in the 141lb weight class. Lewis earned back-to-back falls, both coming under two minutes before earning the third-place victory.

Te'Andre Allen (Cleveland, OH/Orange) wrestled out of the consolation bracket to earn a fifth-place finish in the 133lb weight class. The freshman secured a fall, a decision, and a 6-4 sudden victory before upending McKendree University's Christian Cartright 9-5 in the fifth-place match.

Freshman Joshua Gaye (Des Moines, IA/Mooseheart Academy) wrestled to a fifth-place showing in the heavyweight division. Gaye earned a fall in the second round and added a fall in the quarters.

Justin Bradford earned three wins in the 125lb weight class over four-year individuals to place sixth overall in the bracket. Bradford scored two decisions and a 13-1 major before falling in the semifinals.

Freshman Arojae Hart (Murphysboro, IL/Murphysboro) advanced to the semifinals of the 133lb bracket and finished sixth overall. Hart picked up a 13-4 major and a 5-0 decision for the Warriors.

The Warriors return to action on November 30 for an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) dual at Ellsworth Community College.
