LEWIS CLAIMS ICCAC WEEKLY HONOR

Centerville, IA – Following an undefeated record at the 31st Annual Art Kraft Memorial Tournament, sophomore Matthew Lewis (Centerville, IA/Centerville) has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week.

Lewis, ranked No. 4 in the individual national rankings for the Indian Hills Men's Wrestling squad, ran through the 141lb bracket at the tournament in River Grove, IL to earn his first weekly honor. Lewis won all four matches with first-round falls to take home first-place in the event.

The returning national qualifier from a year ago, Lewis opened the tournament with a pin in 2:41 in the opening round over Ancilla College's (MI) Bryan Chevaro. Lewis followed up in the quarterfinals with a pin in 1:24 over Elmhurst University's (IL) Ben Leach. Lewis advanced to the finals with a pin in 1:25 over Jager Kwiatkowski of Henry Ford College (MI).

In the championship bout, Lewis needed just 2:18 to drop Elmhurst's Troy Mock to claim his first open title of the year. In total, Lewis needed just 7:48 of mat time to claim the title for the Warriors.

The sophomore improved to 12-1 overall on the year and now ranks fifth in school history with 29 career wins.

The Warriors head into the holiday break and will return to action on January 15 at the Central Missouri Open in Warrensburg, MO.
