Council Bluffs, IA – The last two unbeaten Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) men's wrestling squads are set to square off in a top-10 dual on Friday afternoon as No. 9 Indian Hills heads to No. 2 Iowa Western Community College.

SETTING THE STAGE

Indian Hills, ranked No. 9 in the latest NJCAA national rankings, enters Wednesday night's dual with a 3-0 ICCAC record and are coming off a strong showing at the Roger Denker Open, the team's first tournament of the new year, where three individuals placed.

Iowa Western has won each of its three ICCAC duals this year and have been ranked inside the top-3 in all three of the national polls this year.

MAT NOTES

  • Indian Hills currently leads the ICCAC with a total of 92 points for while allowing just 48 points against in the team's three dual meets.
  • Iowa Western leads the conference with just 40 points against while ranking second behind the Warriors with 91 points for.
  • Indian Hills' freshman standout Riley Bettich and Iowa Western's Jakason Burks, the national runner-up from a year ago, will square off for the third time this season. Burks has posted two wins over Bettich this year's in two thrilling matches – a 3-1 sudden victory and a 4-1 decision.

The two powerhouse junior college programs currently boast a combined 12 individuals in the latest NJCAA national rankings.

LAST TIME OUT

Indian Hills defeated Iowa Western 22-12 in a matchup between the 5th ranked Warriors and 8th ranked Reivers on January 30, 2022. The victory pushed the Warriors to 5-0 in league action after winning six of the 11 bouts.

SERIES HISTORY

Wednesday night's matchup will prove to be the rubber match between the two perennial national contenders. The Warriors suffered its only dual loss of the 2020-21 season with a 25-14 defeat on March 11, 2021.

SPREE'S NOTES

Along with the men's top-10 nationally ranked matchup, the Indian Hills and Iowa Western women's wrestling squads will square off at 1:00 PM Friday afternoon. The Warriors enter the dual ranked No. 1 in the nation while the Reivers are No. 3 in the nation.

"The fans should be in store for two amazing duals," stated head coach Cole Spree. "Multiple nationally ranked individual match ups should happen throughout the night. The ICCAC has been known to produce some of the top NJCAA duals every year on the men's side and now we get to be part of it on the women's side as well. Being part of the biggest dual to date in the NJCAA is great and I am excited for our student-athletes to experience it.

WHAT'S NEXT

Indian Hills will host Iowa Central in the team's final conference dual of the regular season. The Warriors will take on the Tritons at 7:00 PM on January 25 as part of a doubleheader dual with the women's squads.

The dual will also serve as Sophomore Night for 17 individuals that will be recognized prior to the start of the match.
