DEBOE NAMED ICCAC ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Centerville, IA – after winning the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) North Central District Heavyweight title, sophomore Kawaun Deboe (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) has been named this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week.

Deboe stormed through the 285lb bracket at the NJCAA North Central District Tournament to become the first-ever heavyweight champion for the Indian Hills Men's Wrestling squad. Deboe claimed an automatic berth to the upcoming NJCAA National Tournament with the victory.

Deboe was the lone district champion for the Warriors as the team placed third overall at the national tournament qualifier at Ellsworth Community College on Sunday. Deboe, a NJCAA All-American from a year ago, received his second consecutive automatic bid to the national tournament after placing third at last year's district tournament. As a freshman, Deboe earned All-American honors with a seventh-place finish at the national tournament.

On Sunday, Deboe entered the district tournament as the No. 1 overall seed and received a first round bye. In the semifinals, Deboe scored a 17-0 tech fall in the first round to advance to the finals. Deboe defeated Hugo Harp of Iowa Central Community College with a 3-0 decision in the championship bout for his second victory over Harp this year.

Deboe joins Caleb Meekins (2021, 2022), Deron Pulliam (2021, 2022), and Chris Busutil (2021) as the only district champions in school history for Indian Hills.

Deboe will lead the Warriors into the NJCAA National Tournament March 3-4 at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, IA. Along with Indian Hills' third-place team finish, all 10 individual competitors qualified for the upcoming national tournament.
