WARRIORS TOPPLE NO. 1 AT HOME!

Centerville, IA – No. 2 nationally ranked Indian Hills Men's Wrestling scored a monumental win on Friday night, taking down No. 1 North Idaho College 28-12 at the Multi-Purpose Building.

In the premiere junior college wrestling dual of the year, the top two teams squared off at the Multi-Purpose Building on the Indian Hills campus Friday night. The Warriors secured seven matchups on the night, including the final four bouts to pull away for its first all-time win over the Cardinals.

With the win, the Warriors move to 4-0 on the year in duals. The win over the Cardinals is the first victory over the No. 1 team in the nation in program history for the Warriors, and ninth top-10 win in school history.

North Idaho opened the night with a win at 125lbs before the Warriors earned a disqualification victory at 133lbs. Indian Hills picked up its first true victory of the night at 141lbs as freshman Gavyn Whitehead (New Castle, IN/New Castle) electrified the crowd with a 12-3 major decision, including a late three-point takedown to earn four points for the Warriors.

Freshman Shehabeldin Mohamed (Alexandria, Egypt/Smouha Military) put together an impressive performance at 149lbs in his second-career dual match, but fell short to No. 6 nationally ranked Sam Silveria by a 1-0 decision.

Sophomore Brice Coleman (Indianapolis, IN/Indiana Tech) jumped out to an early 6-0 lead over North Idaho's Jake Hubby and held on down the stretch for a 9-6 decision, pushing Indian Hills' lead to 13-6.

A pin at 165lbs for the Cardinals pulled North Idaho within one, 13-12, but the Warriors proved to be too much down the stretch.

Freshman Mohamed Tarek Abdelhady (Alexandria, Egypt/Sports Military School) stunned No. 3 nationally ranked Conon Northwind at 174lbs with a late fall in the third round. Abdelhady erased a 5-1 deficit with five consecutive points late in the third period before pinning Northwind with 26 seconds remaining to push the lead to 19-12.

Sophomore Jaquan East (Kokomo, IN/Kokomo) produced what may have been the most impressive victory for the Warriors this season. Ranked No. 4 in the nation at 174lbs, East's number was called to compete at 184lbs against No. 2 nationally ranked Noah Poe-Hatten. East fell behind 3-0 early on, but recorded a pair of three-point takedowns, one each in the final two periods and added a bonus point for riding time to stun Poe-Hatten.

Freshman Andrew Marquez (Rock Island, IL/Rock Island) moved to 4-0 in duals this year with a 7-6 decision over No. 8 nationally ranked Chandler Loveless. Marquez built an early lead before Loveless battled back to tie the match 6-6 in the third period. Marquez secured the win with a bonus point via riding time to secure the dual victory for the Warriors.

Freshman Naasir Edmonds (Virginia Beach, VA/Landstown) closed out the night with an insurance victory for the Warriors, picking up a 3-1 decision to remain unbeaten in four dual matches this year.

The Warriors return to action Wednesday night at conference foe Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, IA as part of a doubleheader dual with the women's side.
