WARRIORS SET RECORD, DROP HAWKEYE AT HOME

Centerville, IA – The No. 2 nationally ranked Indian Hills Men's Wrestling squad remained unbeaten on the year with an impressive 50-3 win over Hawkeye Community College at the Multi-Purpose Building in Centerville on Wednesday night. The Warriors move to 6-0 on the year in dual action.

The Warriors tied a school record with 50 team points in the victory, tying last year's total in a 50-6 win over Iowa Lakes on January 31. The 47-point margin of victory is the largest in school history as the Warriors took nine of the 10 matchups on Wednesday night.

Indian Hills, ranked No. 2 in the nation in the latest The Open Mat Team Dual and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rankings, has now defeated each of its six dual opponents by double-digits this year. The Warriors are outscoring the opposition 222-49 throughout the early portion of the 2024-25 campaign.

The Warriors jumped all over the Redtails from the get-go as sophomore All-American Isaac Gibbs (Prosper, TX/Rock Hill) rolled his opponent at 125lbs with an 18-2 tech fall. Gibbs, the all-time leader in career tech falls at Indian Hills with 11, needed just 2:04 of mat time to give the Warriors the quick lead.

Sophomore Riley Bettich (Stevensville, MI/Crown Point), the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the nation at 133lbs, scored a dominant 17-2 tech fall over Tate Turner to push the Warrior lead to 10-0.

Freshman Gavyn Whitehead (New Castle, IN/New Castle) continued an impressive start to his rookie campaign with a fall at 141lbs in 4:30 for the Warriors. Whitehead, who remains unbeaten at 8-0 on the year, moves to 4-0 in dual action this year with three pins.

Freshman Keaton Morton (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) picked up his first collegiate dual win, dropping Gavin Reed with just two seconds remaining in the second period to score six team points for the Warriors.

Sophomore Brice Coleman (Indianapolis, IN/Indiana Tech), ranked No. 5 at 157lbs in the latest The Open Mat rankings, earned a pin with two seconds remaining in the third period to secure bonus points for the Warriors. Coleman, who led 10-0 in the match before the pin, accumulated over 5:00 of riding time to move to 7-0 on the year, including 6-0 in duals.

Freshman James Cotton (Jacksonville, IL/Jacksonville) picked up his first-career win for the Warriors at 165lbs. Trailing 4-3 in the opening period, Cotton regrouped and pulled away from David Misner down the stretch to secure a 22-6 tech fall for the Warriors.

Sophomore All-American Jaquan East (Kokomo, IN/Kokomo), ranked No. 2 in the nation at 174lbs, easily cruised to a 15-0 tech fall for the Warriors. East needed just 2:24 of mat time to pick up the win.

The Redtails secured their lone win of the night with a 10-7 decision at 184lbs before the Warriors picked up a forfeit victory at 197lbs.

Freshman Justin Brown (Borden, IN/Floyd Central) capped the night with an impressive dual debut at 285lbs. Brown secured a fall in just 33 seconds over Isaac Ericson to close the dual in emphatic fashion.
