Centerville, IA – The No. 2 ranked Indian Hills Men's Wrestling squad earned a statement win on Wednesday night, dropping No. 4 ranked Iowa Central Community College in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) dual at the Multi-Purpose Building.
In the sixth all-time meeting between the two junior college powerhouse programs, the Warriors evened the series by tying their largest margin of victory over the Tritons. Indian Hills took eight of the 10 matches on Wednesday night, earning a pair of bonus victories along the way.
In a showdown of the remaining two unbeaten ICCAC squads, the Tritons opened the night with a victory at 125lbs before the Warriors rattled off seven consecutive victories to pull away.
Sophomore Riley Bettich (Stevensville, IN/Crown Point), ranked No. 1 in the nation rallied in the third period at 133lbs to score a 9-6 decision for the team's first win of the night. No. 4 ranked Gavyn Whitehead (New Castle, IN/New Castle) jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead before securing an 8-5 decision at 141lbs. Sophomore Yaveion Freeman (Alton, IL/Alton) was victorious at 149lbs after scoring a 5-1 decision with all five points coming in the third period.
Sophomore Brice Coleman (Indianapolis, IN/Indiana Tech) pushed the Warrior lead to 14-3 with a dominant 21-5 tech fall at 157lbs. No. 11 ranked Cinsere Clark (Des Moines, IA/Valley) kept the momentum rolling for the Warriors with a 4-2 decision at 165lbs.
Freshman Mohamed Tarek Abdelhady (Alexandria, Egypt/Sports Military School), who soared to No. 4 in the latest national rankings, built an early lead at 174lbs before scoring a late three-point takedown to secure a 13-2 major decision.
Sophomore All-American Jaquan East (Kokomo, IN/Kokomo) earned a 7-4 decision at 184lbs to put the match out of reach before freshman Naasir Edmonds (Virginia Beach, VA/Landstown) closed out the night with a 2-0 decision at 285lbs.
The Warriors are back in action January 22 for the team's home finale against Ellsworth Community College as part of Sophomore Night for the men's and women's wrestling programs.
