Indian Hills Opens Season By Blasting Oakton

Season Opener against Oakton Community College

Bettendorf, Iowa -- Returning all-region performer Megan McElmeel set the tone by scoring the first three goals, in a span of 11 minutes to start the game, and Indian Hills went on to overwhelm Oakton CC, 16-0, in IHCC's season-opening match on Thursday.

McElmeel led the Warriors' 16-4-1 team a year ago with 16 goals and a teammate on that squad, Laura Hallissey, assisted on two of the early scores in this contest.

There were four other IHCC players with multiple-goal games.  After Haleigh Steding got the first of her two first-half goals, Brandi Menephee tallied twice, just eight minutes apart.  Menephee added two more goals in the second half.

Kacie Mitchell notched the final goal of the opening half, then had two unassisted goals to close out the scoring.  Hallissey and Taylor Hiatt began the second-half scoring, when the Warriors matched their first period with eight goals, and Emma Rosner scored twice in the final half.

A dozen different players had an assist for Indian Hills with Hallissey and Calista Fuessley credited with two apiece.

Emily Sands and Taylor Karns divided the goalkeeper duties, each playing a half.

The Warriors open region play on Sept. 1, hosting Iowa Lakes at 2:00.
