Council Bluffs, IA – The Indian Hills Women's Soccer team advanced in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Women's Soccer Midwest District tournament with a 4-1 victory over Crowder College (MO) on Friday. The Warriors improve to 12-5-0 overall on the year, the most wins for the program since 2021.
The Warriors used a pair of goals from freshman Rheala Herrera (Aztec, NM/Aztec) to drop the Roughriders in the opening game of the postseason tournament. Indian Hills advances to take on Lewis & Clark College (IL) at 1:00 PM Sunday afternoon in Council Bluffs, IA on the campus of Iowa Western Community College.
As a team, the Warriors fired 34 shots on the day, including 14 strikes on target. Indian Hills earned 11 corner kicks to aid in the Warriors' postseason victory.
Sophomore María Melendez (Aragua, Venezuela/Aragua Estudiantil) secured the win in net, stopping four shots. Melendez moves into second-place on the career wins leaderboard at Indian Hills with 17 while her 12 wins this year rank third-most in a single season in school history.
Sophomore Rocío Criado (Madrid, Spain/North Cross School) sored the game's opening goal at the 31:27 mark of the first half before Herrera put home a goal in the 40th minute on assists from Haifia Rios (__) and Nana Tanikawa (Kawasaki, Japan/Takatsu).
Sophomore Maika Nchana (Barcelona, Spain/INS Torras I Bages) tallied her 11th career goal at the 52:29 mark on an another assist from Tanikawa. Herrera capped the Warriors' scoring effort at the 71:00 mark to put the game out of reach. Herrera has now scored three goals in the team's last two contests.
