OKORO STRIKES TWICE, WARRIORS BLANK HARFORD 5-0

Tullanomah, TN – Sophomore Rachel Okoro (Slough, England/Claires Court) tallied a pair of goals to lead Indian Hills Community College to a 5-0 win over Harford Community College (MD) on Friday afternoon. The win pushes the Warriors to 5-2-0 overall.

In its first all-time meeting with the Fighting Owls, Indian Hills used back-to-back goals from Okoro to stake a 2-0 lead before capitalizing with three goals over the final 19 minutes to run away with the win. The Warriors have now scored five goals in three separate matches this year and are outscoring their opponents 25-5 to start the season.

Okoro, who has now scored two goals in back-to-back contests for the Warriors, found the back of the net in the 10th minute for the early lead. The 1-0 advantage stood still for the remainder of the first half before Okoro doubled the lead in the 60th minute. The sophomore was on the receiving end of a corner kick from Nana Tanikawa (Kawasaki, Japan/Takatsu) for her team-leading seventh goal of the year.

The Warriors put the game out of reach in the 72nd minute as Aubree Boyd (Montrose, IA/Central Lee) tallied her first collegiate goal for the 3-0 lead. Lina Kaabeche (Lyon, France / Claude Bernard) added a strike in the 78th minute, her second goal of the year, before Maika Nchana (Barcelona, Spain/INS Torras I Bages) closed out the scoring with a penalty kick at the 85:14 mark. The goal marked Nchana's fourth score of the year, surpassing her total from her freshman season.

Tanikawa tallied a pair of assists in the win for the Warriors, pushing her season total to a team-high five helpers, the sixth-highest total in the nation this year.

Sophomore María Melendez (Aragua, Venezuela/Aragua Estudiantil) was once again victorious in net for the Warriors, stopping a pair of shots in the shutout. The win marked the 10th of Melendez's Indian Hills career while the shutout was the sixth solo clean sheet over the past two seasons, third-most in school history.

As a team, the Warriors' 0.71 goals against average ranks 19th nationally.

Indian Hills' road trip to Tennessee wraps up on Sunday with a matchup against Motlow State Community College (TN) at 11:00 AM.
