Ottumwa, IA – The No. 20 nationally ranked Indian Hills Women's Soccer team ran past Cisco College (TX) at home on Saturday morning with a 6-0 victory. Saturday's contest served as sophomore day for six individuals.
Three different players found the back of the net, led by a hat trick from freshman Kiara Levac (Sudbury, Canada/E.S.C. I'Horizon) and a brace from sophomore Maika Nchana (Barcelona, Spain/INS Torras I Bages). The Warriors held the Wranglers scoreless for the duration of the match, the team's fifth clean sheet of the year.
Prior to Saturday's contest, the Warriors recognized their sophomore class – María Melendez (Aragua, Venezuela/Aragua Estudiantil), Rocio Criado (Madrid, Spain/North Cross School), Rachel Okoro (Slough, England/Claires Court), Alexia Bru (Barcelona, Spain/Vall d'Hebrón), Maika Nchana (Barcelona, Spain/INS Torras I Bages), and Lauren Tarbell (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa).
The Warriors outshot the visitors 20-9 on the day, including 14 shots on target for the home team. Indian Hills tallied eight corner kicks to just three for the Wranglers.
Melendez and freshman Kyrsten DeWees (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) split equal time in net to pitch the shutout. Melendez stopped a pair of shots while DeWees posted a career-high three save. With the win on Saturday, Melendez is now tied for third all-time in school history with 15 wins.
Freshman Arnicka Louis (Castries, Saint Lucia/Sir Ira Simmons) opened up the scoring in the 10th minute after receiving a through ball from Nana Tanikawa (Kawasaki, Japan/Takatsu) in the attacking third. Louis eluded the defense and put home the Warriors' first goal of the game and her team-leading 11th tally this year.
Levac's breakthrough performance opened up in the 14th minute with her first goal of the game on an assist from Louis. The freshman added back-to-back goals less than a minute apart at the 24:16 and 25:01 marks to record her first-career hat trick. Levac pushed her season goals total to seven on the year.
Nchana closed out the scoring for the Warriors with two goals midway through the second half. The sophomore cruised past the defense on an assist from Bru to extend the lead to 5-0 while Mayo Kawashima (Hiroshima, Japan/Osaka Gakugei) and Louis teamed up to find Nchana in the box for the team's sixth goal of the contest.
With the three points on the day, Louis moves up to fifth in the nation with 33 points this year, the most in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC). Levac's six points pushed her season total to 26, tied for 14th most in the country.
