EIGHT WARRIORS PLACE AT LINDENWOOD OPEN

St. Charles, MO – Eight individual student-athletes placed at the Lindenwood Open for the Indian Hills Women's Wrestling team on Sunday, including Kennedy Shropshire's (Lawrenceville, GA/Mountain View) first-place finish in the 109lb weight class.

In the 15-team field, the defending Junior College National Champions put together a solid showing in its second open event of the year. Along with Shropshire's first-place medal, the Warriors also earned three second-place finishes.

As a team, the Warriors placed second overall with 107.0 team points, just short of Lindewood's 117.5 points to finish first. Umpqua Commnity College (OR) finished third overall with 70.5 points.

Shropshire entered the Lindenwood Open after earning a third-place finish on Nov. 7 at the Falcon Invitational. The freshman opened up the Lindenwood Open with three consecutive falls, including a second round pin in 49 seconds. In the championship round, Shropshire defeated Lizette Rodriguez with a pin in 1:10 to take home top honors.

Sophomore Mya Turnmire (Rockford, IL/Harlem) finished as a runner-up in the 101lb weight class. Turnmire was victorious in the first three rounds with three consecutive pins in 2:03, 1:35, and 2:37. Turnmire fell in the championship round to Alaina Smith of Iowa Wesleyan University.

The Warriors earned three of the top six finishes in 116lb weight class, including Malachite Chunn (Jacksonville, NC/Jacksonville) who finished second overall. After falling in the opening round, Chunn won her next two matches with two pins – a 33 second fall and a 2:32 fall in the championship round. Jamesa Robinson (Minneapolis, MN/Patrick Henry) took home a third-place finish after going 2-1 while Heaven Leigh-Jackson finished sixth overall after earning a 13-0 decision in the fourth round.

Alondra Rosada-Martinez (Carolina, Puerto Rico/ColegioAmarlieen) placed second overall in the 136lb weight class. Celeste Tellez (McAllen, TX/McAllen) and Emma Williams (Kansas City, MO/Liberty North) rounded the Warrior placers with a pair of fourth-place showings in the 143lb and 155lb weight class, respectively.

Indian Hills will take part in its first dual of the season on Dec. 7 at William Penn University.
