Centerville, IA – The No. 1 nationally ranked Indian Hills Women's Wrestling team capped an undefeated Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) regular season with the program's first-ever shutout on Wednesday night, a 48-0 victory over visiting Iowa Lakes Community College.
The Warriors closed out its conference dual slate with a perfect 6-0 record after blanking the Lakers at the Multi-Purpose Building. The win secured the program's 10th dual victory of the year to set a school record for most dual wins in a season.
Along with Wednesday night's action on the mat, 13 individuals were recognized as part of sophomore night following the team's final home match of the season. The Warriors recognized sophomores Norma Alejandro, Ja'nya Banks, Eliana Bommarito, Nevaeh Briggs, Brooke Burns, Jazmine Garcia, Dutchess King, Javanica Mickens, Shammilka Miranda Diaz, Karla Padilla Zepeda, Yaracely Saenz, Nolani Snagg, and Tiffany White.
The action on the mat saw the Warriors secure four victories on the night to move to 10-1 overall in dual competition this season. Defending 101lb national champion Dutchess King (Lansing, IL/Thornton Fractional South), competing at 109lbs on Wednesday night, earned a first round technical superiority with a 10-0 shutout of Kylie Hessenius. No. 2 nationally ranked and defending 116lb national champion Shammilka Miranda Diaz (Salinas, Puerto Rico/Eugenio Guerra Cruz) earned a 10-0 tech fall of her own to give the Warriors back-to-back victories.
Indian Hills secured consecutive pins at 136lbs and 143lbs to put the match out of reach midway through the dual. Freshman Jayla Spring (Little Rock, AR/Little Rock Central) earned a first round pin in 2:28 to extend the Warriors' lead to 23-0 while freshman Sarah Lewis (Centerville, IA/Centerville) followed up with a pin in 1:37 for the team's final match win of the night.
With the win, the Warriors remain undefeated all-time on their home mat with a perfect 11-0 record and have yet to lose an ICCAC dual in the two seasons of conference action.
Along with Wednesday night's sophomore festivities, the Multi-Purpose Building played host to Military Appreciation Night in partnership with the Iowa National Guard where the Warriors donned camo singlets and competed on the Iowa National Guard official wrestling mat.
The Warriors wrap up their regular season at the Grand View Open in Des Moines, IA on February 3 before prepping for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) tournament in Council Bluffs, IA March 1-2.
