Iowa Falls, IA – The top-ranked team in the nation went on the road to secure its first dual victory of the new year as the Indian Hills Women's Wrestling team defeated No. 9 nationally ranked Ellsworth Community College 51-2 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) action.
The Warriors won all 11 matches on Wednesday night, scoring four tech falls and a pair of pins to remain unbeaten in conference action on the year. Indian Hills is now 4-0 in league duals this year and 8-1 overall.
Defending national champion Dutchess King (Lansing, IL/Thornton Fractional South) opened the night at 101lbs with a 14-1 tech fall over No. 6 nationally ranked Melanie Barillas. King, ranked No. 2 in the latest national polls, improved to 7-1 on the year.
Following three consecutive forfeit victories to give Indian Hills a 19-1 edge, No. 4 nationally ranked Amaria Ridgner (Richton Park, IL/Rich Township) secured a 10-0 tech fall at 130lbs before No. 8 ranked Ruth Jimenez Batista scored a 12-2 tech fall at 136lbs.
Abbi Smith (Fort Collins, CO/Poudre) won her third consecutive dual match, and second by pin after a first-round fall to push the Warriors' lead to 32-2.
At 155lbs, No. 3 Genesis Gilmore (Clarksville, TN/Montgomery Central) earned a quick 10-0 tech fall in the first round for her 10th win of the season and eighth tech fall. No. 7 nationally ranked Tanihya Wilson (Palm Bay, FL/Bayside) capped the night for the Warriors at 170lbs with a first round pin, the freshman's first-career ICCAC dual victory.
Next up for the Warriors is the Missouri Baptist Open on Saturday in St. Louis, MO at the Carl & Deloris Petty SRC building.\
