BOMMARITO NAMED ICCAC ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Centerville, IA – Sophomore Eliana Bommarito (Hartland, MI/Brighton) took top honors at the Grand View Open in the 235lb Gold Division on Saturday for the No. 1 nationally ranked Indian Hills Women's Wrestling team. Bommarito earns Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week honors.

The No. 1 ranked pound-for-pound wrestler in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), Bommarito posted a 4-0 mark to earn top honors in the sophomore's first open tournament of the season. Bommarito remained unbeaten throughout her two-year career as a Warrior.

The defending national champion and Most Outstanding Wrestler at last year's NJCAA National Invitational wasted no time in advancing to the championship bout. Bommarito earned a first round fall over Northern Michigan University's Tasha Kuberski before a pin in 20 seconds over Anika Vasquez of Iowa Lakes Community College in the quarterfinals.

Bommarito punched her ticket to the title round after securing a pin in 16 seconds over Destine'e Thomas of North Iowa Area Community College. The win was Bommarito's second victory over Thomas in as many meetings after last week's ICCAC dual win.

In the final match, Bommarito cruised to a 9-2 decision over Hannah Jackson of NAIA No. 15 nationally ranked Ottawa University (KS). Heading into the title match, Jackson owned a perfect 9-0 record on the year.

The honor is Bommarito's second ICCAC Athlete of the Week honor throughout her Indian Hills career.

Indian Hills now turns its attention to the NJCAA National Invitational March 1-2 in Council Bluffs, IA.
