Indianola, IA – The Indian Hills Women's Wrestling squad, ranked No. 1 in the nation, opened up its tournament portion of the 2024-25 schedule at the Luther Hill Invitational on Saturday. The Warriors earned three podium spots on the day.
Freshman Nevaeh Hayden (Tulsa, OK/Union) produced an impressive showing in the freshman/sophomore 180lb bracket, taking home a runner-up finish. Hayden opened up the day with a 10-0 tech fall before earning back-to-back pins in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. Hayden earned a pin in 21 seconds and a fall in 1:24 to advance to the finals before defaulting out of the championship bout.
Freshman Chasey Karabell (Aurora, CO/Eaglecrest) secured a sixth-place finish in the freshman/sophomore 103lb bracket after winning four matches on the day. Karabell kicked off the day with a pin in 1:55 before a 10-0 tech fall to advance to the quarterfinals. Karabell dropped to the consolation bracket, but earned two more wins with another 10-0 tech fall and a pin in 2:04.
Freshman Wyntergale Oxendine (Lumberton, NC/Lumberton) brought home a 10th-place finish in the freshman/sophomore 207lb bracket to round out the podium spots for the Warriors. Oxendine won three consecutive matches against four-year opponents to open the day – a pin in 1:26, a 12-2 tech fall, and a 10-4 decision.
The Warriors return to action Friday night in Poteau, OK in an early season test against No. 2 nationally ranked Carl Albert State College (OK).
