Poteau, OK – The Indian Hills Men's and Women's Wrestling squads are set for a premiere National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) doubleheader on Friday as the Warriors head to Carl Albert State College (OK) for a pair of duals.

The nationally ranked Warriors are back on the mat for a pair of key road duals at Carl Alber State. The 540-mile trek marks the longest road trip in program history for the Warriors.


WARRIOR WOMEN'S NOTES

The Indian Hills women are back on the mat after a pair of impressive performances to open up the 2024-25 campaign. The Warriors head into Friday's dual as the No. 1 ranked team in three different national polls.

  • Indian Hills enters Friday night with a 1-0 dual record after dropping Trinidad State (CO) at home on October 29, 53-1.
  • The Warriors secured three place-finishers at the Luther Hill Open on November 3
  • The Warriors, four-time defending national champions, are well-represented in the individual national rankings:
    • Indian Hills boasts 17 individuals in the NJCAA rankings and 16 in The Open Mat Rankings.
    • Seven individuals are ranked No. 1 in their respective weight class spread out across the NJCAA and The Open Mat polls.
  • Indian Hills scored a 36-16 victory over the Vikings in last year's season opener in Centerville.

SCOUTING THE VIKINGS

One season removed from a fifth-place finish at the NJCAA National Invitational, the Vikings enter the 2024-25 campaign ranked No. 2 in the nation in the NJCAA, The Open Mat Team Tournament, and The Open Mat Team Dual rankings.

  • Carl Albert boasts 13 individauls in the preseason NJCAA rankings, the third-most of any program in the nation.
  • The Vikings are led by preseason No. 1 Calli Connally at 103lbs after securing the 2024 NJCAA 101lb national title.
  • Abigail Butts, an NJCAA All-American last season, enters the new year ranked No. 4 in the 110lb weight class.
  • The Vikings claim three individuals in the 235lb weight class individual rankings, led by No. 3 Angeline Weselline.
  • Head coach Jake Lords enters his fourth season at the helm of the program.

WARRIOR MEN'S NOTES

The Indian Hills men have jumped out to a solid start to kick-off the new year while garnering national attention in multiple rankings.

  • The Warriors checked in at No. 2 in the first edition of the NJCAA Team Rankings while five individuals earned top-five spots in their respective weight class.
  • Sophomore Riley Bettich, an All-American in 2023, took the top national rank at 133lbs for the Warriors.
  • Indian Hills opened the year with a 41-6 victory over Trinidad State before securing 11 place-finishers at the Luther Hill Open.
  • The Warriors defeated Carl Albert last year in the first all-time meeting between the programs in Centerville, 24-17.
    • Returning All-American Jaquan East scored a 5-4 decision at 174lbs last year vs. Carl Albert State.
  • Along with the Warriors' spot at No. 2 in the NJCAA poll, Indian Hills is ranked No. 1 in The Open Mat Team Tournament rankings.

SCOUTING THE VIKINGS

Carl Albert is coming off a 12th-place finish at the 2024 NJCAA National Championships in Council Bluffs, its best finish in program history. The Vikings, under fourth-year head coach Jake Lords, have improved its team finish in each of the first three years of competition, jumping from a 27th-place finish in 2022 to last year's top-15 performance.

The Vikings dropped a 35-9 decision to Ouachita Baptist University, ranked No. 25 in the NCAA DII rankings on Wednesday night. Kaiden Cue scored a 16-8 major at 149lbs for the Vikings while Ethan Day earned a 23-8 tech at 184lbs.
