Mason City, IA – The nationally ranked Indian Hills Men's and Women's Wrestling squads return to action Wednesday night with the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) opener for both squads at North Iowa Area Community College.

The Indian Hills Wrestling squads are set to open its 2024-25 ICCAC slate as the Warriors head north for a 210-mile trek to North Iowa Area Community College.

WARRIOR WOMEN'S NOTES

The Warriors have opened the year with a 2-0 dual record, scoring a pair of nonconfernece wins to kick off the new year.

  • Indian Hills scored an impressive win on the road at No. 2 nationally ranked Carl Albert on Friday night. In its fifth-year of competition, the Warriors are 35-4-1 all-time in duals.
  • The Warriors earned victories from Ariah Mervilus, Angelica Vicente Gonzalez, Ruth Jimenez Batista, Genesis Gilmore, Paola Rodriguez, and Nevaeh Hayden.
  • Rodriguez and Hayden each scored pins while the other four victories saw the Warriors outscore the Vikings 40-2 on the mat.
  • The Warriors head into the new year as the only ICCAC program to never lose a dual. The ICCAC is now in its third year offering a women's wrestling conference schedule.
  • Indian Hills is 2-0 all-time vs. NIACC, winning last year in Centerville 48-5 and two years ago in Mason City 42-6.

SCOUTING THE TROJANS

Wednesday night marks the first dual meet of the new year for the Trojans after opening the year with back-to-back trips to Indianola, IA for the Luther Hill Invitational and Open tournaments.

  • The Trojans enter the new year ranked No. 9 in The Open Mat Team Dual rankings No. 10 in The Open Mat Team Tournament rankings.
  • Valerie Smith is the lone individual ranked in the initial NJCAA Poll, checking in at No. 2 in the 235lb class.
  • The Trojans are coming off a 10th-place finish at last year's NJCAA National Invitational, scoring 19.5 team points.
  • In their third-year of competition at the collegiate level, the Trojans are led by head coach Basil Minto.

WARRIOR MEN'S NOTES

The Warriors are coming off a dominant road trip to Oklahoma, coming back with a dual victory and 10 individual place finishers from an action-packed weekend.

  • Indian Hills scored a 44-0 victory over Carl Alber State, its first shutout in program history on Friday night.
  • The Warriors brought home 10 indiviudal place winners at Saturday's Viking Open, also hosted by Carl Albert State.
  • Indian Hills is 5-0 all-time vs. the Trojans, outscoring NIACC 149-64 along the way.
  • The Warriors took a 29-15 victory last year over the Trojans in Centerville.
  • Wednesday's bout will prove to be the fourth nationally ranked matchup between the two ICCAC foes, and second top-five dual as the then-No. 5 Warriors defeated then-No. 7 NIACC 30-13 on December 1, 2021.

SCOUTING THE TROJANS

The Trojans open both their dual and ICCAC schedules on Wendesday night as NIACC welcomes the Warriors to Mason City for the third-time in five years.

  • The Trojans are ranked No. 7 in the NJCAA Preseason Poll, No. 11 in The Open Mat Team Tournament rankings, and No. 13 in The Open Mat Team Dual rankings.
  • Sophomore Cordell White, an NJCAA All-American a year ago, is ranked No. 3 in The Open Mat Pound-for-Pound rankings and No. 1 in the NJCAA 149lb individual rankings.
  • The Trojans boast five individuals in the preseason NJCAA rankings, including No. 4 Emmanuel Celestine at 165lbs.
  • NIACC opened the year with back-to-back trips to Indianola, IA for the Luther Hill Open and the Luther Hill Invite

The Indian Hills Men's Wrestling squad is set for one of the top duals in program history as No. 1 nationally ranked North Idaho College, 14-time NJCAA national champions, head to Centerville, IA on Friday night to take on the Warriors at 5:30 PM.
