WARRIORS DROP HAWKEYE IN ICCAC DUAL

Centerville, IA – The No. 2 nationally ranked Indian Hills Women's Wrestling squad bounced back from its first loss of the season with a dominant 43-8 win over No. 10 nationally ranked Hawkeye Community College on Wednesday night.

The Warriors move to 4-1 overall on the year and 2-1 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) action. Indian Hills took 10 of the 11 matches on the night, including four falls. The Warriors have now outscored their opponents 198-59 on the year.

Following a forfeit win for the Warriors at 103lbs, freshman Alycia Perez (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West) opened up the action with a 10-3 decision at 110lbs, taking down No. 9 nationally ranked Mia Kurth. Perez jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead in the opening period before running away with the match.

Freshman Ariah Mervilus (Virginia Beach, VA/Landstown) ran away in the 117lb matchup to score a 10-0 tech fall and push the Warrior lead to 12-1. Mervilus, ranked No. 5 in the nation at 117lbs in the latest The Open Mat rankings, remains unbeaten on the year at 3-0.

EmmaLyn Burnett (Kansas City, MO/Platte County) was victorious in the 124lb bout, scoring a first round pin in 2:27. Burnett improves to 2-0 in ICCAC dual action with two pins on the year.

Sophomore All-American Angelica Vicente Gonzalez (Cidra, Puerto Rico/Eugenio Guerra Cruz) moved to 4-0 on the year with her 11th career fall, tied for third-most in school history. Vicente pinned her opponent in 2:15 to extend the Indian Hills lead to 22-1.

Amaria Ridgner (Richton Park, IL/Rich Township) picked up a 7-0 decision at 138lbs before Ruth Jimenez Batista (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Trina Padilla De Sanz) scored a 12-1 tech fall at 145lbs. With the win, Batista improved to a team-best 5-0 in duals on the year.

Freshman Olivia Stean (Bonner Springs, KS/Bonner Springs) ran past Rory Siems at 160lbs to score a tech fall. Stean built a 13-6 lead through the first period before finishing off Siems in the second period.

No. 1 nationally ranked Nevaeh Hayden (Tulsa, OK/Union) continued an unprecedented start to her rookie campaign with a fall in 14 seconds to give Indian Hills a 38-3 edge. Hayden improves to 7-0 on the year, including 4-0 in duals with four first period falls.

Hawkeye scored its lone win at 207lbs before No. 5 nationally ranked Sha'Niayha Wysinger (Clarksville, TN/Clarksville) scored a fall in 2:04 at 235lbs to close out the night.

Indian Hills returns to action this weekend at the Doane Conner / Oppenheim Open in Crete, NE.
