Centerville, IA – Freshman Chasey Karabell (Aurora, CO/Eaglecrest) of the No. 1 nationally ranked Indian Hills Women's Wrestling team has been named this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Women's Wrestling Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday afternoon by the conference office.
Karabell put together a dominant weekend at the women's Conner/Oppenheim Doane Open in Crete, NE. Karabell collected five wins on the day to reach the consolation semifinals of the 103lb bracket. Karabell scored two tech falls, two pins, and a decision for the Warriors.
Karabell's signature win of the tournament came in the fourth round of the consolation bracket as the freshman scored a pin over the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in Iowa Western Community College's Mia Siqueiros, an All-American from a year ago. Karabelltook down Siqueiros in 1:59 to advance.
Karabell, ranked No. 7 in the nation in the latest The Open Mat 103lb rankings, also earned a pair of 10-0 tech falls with wins over opponents from four-year universities to go along with a pin over Baker University's Veronica Green in 2:19.
Karabell is 9-3 on the year for the Warriors with four falls.
