WARRIORS TAKE DOWN NO. 2 CARL ALBERT ON THE ROAD

Poteau, OK – In a showdown of the top two teams in the nation, No. 1 Indian Hills Women's Wrestling came out on top with a 28-20 victory over No. 2 Carl Albert State College (OK) on Friday night.

The Warriors took six of the 11 matches on the night, including three wins from the returning All-Americans. Indian Hills picked up wins at 117lbs, 124lbs, 145lbs, 160lbs, 180lbs, and 207lbs.

After dropping the first two contests of the night to the Vikings, freshman Ariah Mervilus (Virginia Beach, VA/Landstown) put the Warriors on the board at 117lbs with a 12-2 tech fall. Sophomore Angelica Vicente Gonzalez (Cidra, Puerto Rico/Eugenio Guerra Cruz) gave the Warriors a 10-9 match lead at 124lbs with a 10-0 tech fall in the second round.

Carl Albert responded with a pair of wins at 131lbs and 138lbs to jump back ahead, 17-10, but the Warriors rattled off four consecutive victories to secure the match. Ruth Jimenez Batista (__) was victorious at 145lbs with an 8-0 decision. Returning national champion Genesis Gilmore (Clarksville, TN/Montgomery Central) earned a 10-0 tech fall in the second round at 160lbs while freshman Paola Rodriguez (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Rosalina C. Martinez) earned a fall in just 58 seconds at 180lbs.

Freshman Nevaeh Hayden (Tulsa, OK/Union) capped the night for the Warriors at 207lbs with a pin in 2:03 to extend the lead to 28-17 and give Indian Hills its biggest dual win of the year.
