Centerville, IA – The Indian Hills Women's Wrestling team held steady in the latest The Open Mat national rankings, announced Thursday afternoon. The Warriors checked in at No. 1 in the Team Tournament poll and No. 2 in the Team Dual rankings while 18 individuals earned a spot in their respective weight class rankings.
Led by three individuals in the top-10 of the national pound-for-pound rankings, the Warriors earned 277 points in the Team Tournament rankings this week to lead No. 2 Carl Albert State College (OK) by 67 points. The Warriors, who own the most dual wins in the nation this year with seven, sit behind No. 1 Iowa Western Community College in the Team Dual poll.
Defending national champion Genesis Gilmore (Clarksville, TN/Montgomery Central) maintained her spot as the No. 1 ranked pound-for-pound wrestler in the nation this year. Gilmore, who captured the 155lb national title a year ago, is ranked No. 1 in the nation at 155lbs.
Gilmore is joined by freshman Nevaeh Hayden (Tulsa, OK/Union), ranked No. 4 in the national pound-for-pound rankings at No. 1 overall at 180lbs for the Warriors with an unbeaten record on the year. Sophomore Angelica Vicente Gonzalez (Cidra, Puerto Rico/Eugenio Guerra Cruz), ranked No. 1 in the nation at 124lbs, is ranked No. 6 overall in the pound-for-pound poll.
The Warriors are set to return to action for the first time in 2025 on January 15 with a home Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) dual vs. Iowa Central Community College at the Multi-Purpose Building in Centerville.
