Centerville, IA – No. 1 Indian Hills Women's Wrestling ran past No. 6 Iowa Central Community College 36-10 in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) dual at the Multi-Purpose Building on Wednesday night. The Warriors move to 3-1 in league action this year.
The Warriors took eight of the 11 matches with all eight victories earning bonus points for Indian Hills. The Warriors secured six tech falls to go along with a pair of falls to earn the conference victory.
Freshman Chasey Karabell (Aurora, CO/Eaglecrest), opened up the night with a 10-0 tech fall at 103lbs, scoring six points in the first period before finishing off No. 9 Myah Rausch with over a minute remaining in the second period.
The Tritons earned a win at 110lbs but the Warriors bounced back at 117lbs as No. 3 nationally ranked Ariah Mervilus (Virginia Beach, VA/Landstown) upened No. 8 Lacey Reed with an 11-0 tech. Mervilus jumped out to a fast start to secure the shutout in 1:59 of action.
No. 1 nationally ranked Angelica Vicente Gonzalez (Cidra, Puerto Rico/Eugenio Guerra Cruz), ranked No. 6 overall in the national pound-for-pound rankings, scored a 10-0 tech fall in the first period to drop No. 6 Rhonda Faye Auradou to push the Warrior lead to 13-3.
No. 5 Amaria Ridgner (Richton Park, IL/Rich Township) extended the lead to 17-3 at 131lbs as the sophomore took a 10-0 tech fall over No. 7 Avery Mohr.
Sophomore Ruth Jimenez Batista (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Trina Padilla De Sanz) put up a valiant effort against No. 1 nationally ranked Alexis Ross, a third-place finisher at last year's national championship, but fell short 5-0 as the Tritons secured the win at 138lbs.
The No.1 pound-for-pound wrestler in the nation, Genesis Gilmore (Clarksville, TN/Montgomery Central) continued an unprecedented run to start the 2024-25 season as the sophomore earned a 12-0 tech fall in just 1:30 of action. Gilmore improves to 9-0 on the year with six tech falls.
The Tritons rebounded at 160lbs with an 11-7 decision, but freshman Nevaeh Hayden (Tulsa, OK/Union) put the match out of reach with a fall in 1:01 at 180lbs. Hayden, the No. 4 ranked pound-for-pound wrestler in the nation, improved to 10-0 on the year after securing her eight fall of the year. Hayden has not wrestled more 2:03 in a match this year.
Freshman Ileen Castrejon (Beach Park, IL/Zion-Benton Township) jumped out to a fast start at 207lbs to take a 9-3 lead after the first period. Castrejon scored a four-point takedown just 41 seconds into the second period to earn a 15-3 tech fall.
No. 3 nationally ranked Sha'Niayha Wysinger (Clarksville, TN/Clarksville) provided the biggest highlight of the night to close out the dual as the freshman earned a fall in just 12 seconds to cap the Warriors' third top-10 dual victory of the year.
The Warriors return to action this Friday with a trip to the Missouri Baptist Open in St. Louis, MO.
