Centerville, IA – Freshman Ariah Mervilus (Virginia Beach, VA/Landstown) made history over the weekend by becoming a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women's Wrestling National Champion for Indian Hills Women's Wrestling. For her efforts, Mervilus is the named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Athlete of the Week.
Mervilus captured the 110lb individual national championship to help lead the Warriors to their fifth consecutive national title, and third-straight NJCAA Women's Wrestling National Invitational Championship. Competing as the No. 6 overall seed, Mervilus went 5-0 in the tournament, including a pair of upset victories to claim the top spot on the podium.
In the quarterfinal round, Mervilus claimed a fall in 2:26 over third-seeded Aneth Campos of Iowa Central Community College to punch her ticket to the semifinal round. Mervilus secured a second consecutive upset with a dominant 10-0 tech over second-seeded Abigail Butts of Carl Albert State College (OK).
In the title bout, Mervilus earned a pin in just 45 seconds over fifth-seeded Rachel Jones of Snow College (UT) to become the program's 12th all-time national champion.
The National Championship Indian Hills Men's and Women's Wrestling programs will be celebrated Wednesday afternoon in Centerville, IA for their remarkable feats at the 2025 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championships.
The Warriors will be celebrated with an official ceremony at the Indian Hills Wrestling facility at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, March 12. Wednesday's celebration is free and open to the public.
