Ottumwa, IA – Sophomore Emilio Arellano Lamas (Aguascalientes, Mexico/Instituto Universitario Mexico) of the Indian Hills Men's Golf team has been named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) DI Men's Golf Athlete of the Week, announced by the conference office Tuesday.
Lamas put together a career-best performance at the Wright State Invitational last week to lead the Warriors to a runner-up finish at the Heatherwoode Golf Club in Springboro, OH. Arellano Lamas brought home an individual runner-up finish for the Warriors.
Arellano Lamas, ranked No. 10 in the latest national polls, surged on the final day of competition with a six-under, 65, tied for the lowest round in the 88-player field. The sophomore posted back-to-back rounds of 70 before firing a career-low round of 65 over the final 18 holes. Arellano Lamas' three-round total of 205 is also a new personal-best mark.
Arellano Lamas has now posted six top-10 individual performances on the year, including four in his last five outings. The weekly ICCAC honor is the fourth of the year for the sophomore.
The Warriors will now head to Kansas City, MO for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) DI Men's Golf Central District Championship at Tiffany Greens Golf Club. Action gets underway April 28.
